These are just a very small selection of my favourite documentary wedding photographs from last year. I’ve chosen them because of the expressions on the subjects faces, whether it’s bewilderment at the fancy dress usher / parking attendant, the look of love, fun and relief between a happy couple; or just the atmosphere of the evening entertainment.
I visited several favourite venues last year (half of these photographs were taken at Wedderburn Castle!) but I’m really looking forward to visiting some new venues later this year. There’s a ‘subscribe’ button at the top right of this page if you don’t want to miss out on any of my documentary wedding photographs of 2013…..
Karen and David chose Italy for their wedding – the stunning Villa Balbianello, accessible only by boat from Lake Como. Scenes from both Star Wars and James Bond have been filmed there!
The weather in Lake Como should be warm and sunny – but we had warm and wet, with thunderstorms and high humidity. It certainly made a change from ‘boring’ blue skies, even if the visibility across the lake was limited at times.
It was a small intimate wedding, with just three family members, two friends and myself attending. They did things their way, with David meeting Karen by the jetty and walking with her to the ceremony. Afterwards, we took a water taxi to Bellagio for a fantastic meal – made all the better by the shouts of congratulations and applause from the locals as we walked through the cobbled streets. It was certainly a wedding to remember…..
I’ve always been a traveller, so photographing a wedding in some strange new location holds no fear for me. I have, over the years, photographed weddings in Brisbane and Sydney, Barcelona, Paris, and the Bahamas.
This year, I’ll be heading to Lake Como in Italy for Karen and David’s wedding in August. It’s going to be hot! But at least we’ll all be cooled down with the boat ride to and from the magnificent Villa Balbianello. My airline tickets are already booked!
Below are photos from Aileen and Jon’s wedding on the beach at Bluff House on Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas, and my friends James and Marta’s celebrations in Barcelona.
